But look at the good news Dec 17, 2025

You must commit to minimum 8 hours daily, but you only have to be available for 6-7 hours.
And you're only 10% responsible for the spot checks.
And if there's rework, you'll receive additional support (or provide it?).

More and more high-quality offers like this are coming in via ProZ.com. I don't report them anymore, as nothing has improved and it seems that no one cares. Just having a laugh about it from time to time...

P.S.: Rates are going up. The last time I was offered a job recording five sentences, they only offered 2$.

Admittedly, the agency should be the one to explain its own ad, but maybe someone reading this knows the answers.

-- what exactly are these 'spot checks'?
-- what exactly 'full review' means?
-- why would 10% of one will be fine, while 100% of the other is needed?

Yes, I could on my own make assumptions based of what these words would normal mean / used to mean but given the latest fashion trend to stretch the meaning of words beyond recognition I would be grateful if anyone in the know could explain all this to me in plain-speak like to a 10 year old still learning to speak his first language.

Oh, there's another mystery: they say the job is about Machine Translation Post Editing but they mention a list made of only one language per line.

All my life I was under the impression that 'a translation' must involve a pair of languages - so why is not there a list of pairs 'source language + target language'? How comes?

Seriously, I’m just curious to know what I’m going to be missing by not getting this L3 MTPE+R certification status.

Yea, but Dec 20, 2025

"Spanish (LatAM) - USD 8/hr"

Will they get any professional Spanish translator who is willing to work at that rate?

I guess the ones they would eventually be able to find will produce pieces of garbage, and the end client will be the party that suffers the pains.

NO - they won't!

Whoever is in charge at the end client will just happily tick a box and move on.

'The party that suffers the pains' will be everyone and anyone who will be pushed to use this GIGO-made output as some kind of 'reference'! An improved version on steroids of the contribution ‘Machine Translation' was making for years by polluting the Web with its own pearls.

BTW you seem to see nothing strange in asking for translators without any mention of the source language. I'm really curious to learn how that kind of 'translation work' works?

It is not strange at all. Most likely the job poster was looking for someone who translate from English to Latin American Spanish. Or, they might be looking for someone who works from and/or into Latin American Spanish, and I don't care what the other language is in the X language Spanish (LatAM) pair, and this is irrelevant to my point that the end client will suffer.
