I opened Workbench and went to File and open the TM that I saved on my desktop. And when I want to check words, I use Concordance in the ttx. document by highlighting the word. Is there something I could have done differently?

Also, are you sure the memory really contains previous translations? You can check how many segments it has by choosing File > Properties > Translation Units in Workbench.
It's quite possible that your customer has sent you an empty memory just so that you use the right language combination in TagEditor.
