I want to live "good" or "well" | Apr 6, 2021 |
I know that "good" has been used in the US for a long long time when in the UK we would always say "well". It is fairly common usage in the UK now too. Is "well" used at all in the US in this type of phrase?
It's live well in the US too | Apr 6, 2021 |

Is "well" used at all in the US in this type of phrase? Good and well have the same grammar rules in the US and the UK. Those who say someone did real 'good' will also say live good. Using the adjective good instead of the adverb well is a mistake on both sides of the Atlantic. I don't think either side of the Atlantic has cornered the market on speaking English incorrectly.

Translation has been my profession for over 35 years, it enabled me to raise my children and now that they are all grown-ups to keep helping them when they need. It was just a job at first but developed into a passion, that’s why I keep translating…

None of the options provided in this poll seems to fit. I'd rather say that "it's my passion, and I do care about my earnings" (and about making a living out of it). Since when has this been mutually exclusive?

I couldn't bring myself to agree with "live good". I don't mind "How are you?" -> "I'm good", but from there to "live good" is a quantum leap too far for this old boomer Good, gooder goodest..., Nein danke!
"I'm good" for "I'm well" or "fine" but confusing adjective and verb bothers me. Maybe I'm getting old. =)
Mervyn Henderson (X) Spania Local time: 09:06 din spaniolă în engleză + ... How are you doing? | Apr 6, 2021 |
Are you doing good? I have to fight the urge to reply to certain customers: "Am I doing good? Sure I am. Why, only this morning I helped an elderly couple across the road on a zebra crossing. I'm doing as much good as I can. But why do you ask?"

A Passion AND An Art, But The Money Is Important, Too | Apr 7, 2021 |
I feel a rush of adrenaline as soon as I sit down and get started on my translation work for the day. So literary translation is an art for which I have a passion. I'm passionate about any kind of intellectual exercise, anyway. Authors have valued my work enough as a translator so that they have never had any qualms about paying what I have requested. I think this is the first poll that has made me feel torn between all the options. Under different contexts, I consider it my passion, an art, a job, a career, and my road to success. On some level, I don't care much about the earnings and will make it work one way or another, as I'm a master at living within my means. I also like to brag that I can make an earning at something I love. I do also care about paying the bills and keep that in mind when I think about turn... [Edited at 2021-04-07 00:10 GMT] Exactly, though instead of literary, I do a lot of transcreation which allows me to use my creativity. i love anything to do with art. And I am also branching out into copywriting, another job where I can use my creative streak. So, my passions allow me to earn my a decent rate, doing things I love.
