As a translator who has not completed many projects, what materials can I use in order to create samples for my portfolio. I am aware that I can use books that are in the public domain, but am I not allowed to use current materials such as the Italian newspaper I picked up this morning? Can I use copyrighted materials if I cite them in the display of the source content?

You can go as far as transcreation or rewriting, providing you could maintain the similar quality.

Cheers
