Generic way to transfer variables from a Java app to the OS?

Is there another generic way to transfer the value of variables from a Java app to the operating system (Lin, Win, Mac), other than the system clipboard?
Writing to a text file would be a solution, but it's quite an overhead.

Is it a question for translators?

What does Java have to do with translation? Maybe you should try programming forums?..

Do you really mean "values of variables"? Or do you mean just "data"? Variables are named internal memory objects inside of a Java app. Variables are invisible from outside (security!), except if the programmer of the Java app provides & documents a dedicated way/method/api for acess/exchange to/of a certain exactly defined data subset. Even the clipboard feature works on this condition only - it only looks as if it were generic because nearly all programmers include it.

So, for users the answer is: No generic way. For programmers the answer is: No generic way but possibilities that depend on what you want to achieve. ▲ Collapse
