You do reaqlize that once the fix is done, they will discard the human translator like an empty Tippex bottle. Unless you can leverage this activity and stay on top of the game, it's suicide.
Should this be a paying course? Since it will mean less income for those who follow this trend, I think it should be free. | | | | SirReaL Germania Local time: 21:49 din engleză în rusă + ... | Why would I trade a real, well-paid job for a 'job opportunity'? | May 16, 2012 |

Calling MT a foe implies it is on par with human translation and is capable of posing a serious threat....
Nobody really thinks that do they??? C'mon!
I really don't understand running this as a paying course. It's a bit like offering a teacher the opportunity to go on a training session for teaching assistants. It defies logic to willingly go along with it. ▲ Collapse

Lol - are you sure you're not part Scottish?
No, seriously, last week a client of mine was wanting someone to "edit" texts, by which it turned out he meant summarising AND revising at the same time, sometimes with a bit of translation thrown in. I already do revising and translating for this client as separate services and wasn't interested. Let's just say the colleague who eventually accepted the work now regrets the decision.
However, perhaps we shouldn't condemn the course concept out of hand, since every cloud has a silver lining. Apart from the increased competition from "infinite monkeys", my main gripe with MT is the loss of status it gives rise to in terms of how translation as an art/profession is perceived. If sensibly applied - and valued - post-editing constitutes an opportunity to offset the negative aspects, so let's at least give it a chance.
