Problem with SDL Edit

I work on a laptop with Windows Vista, Office 2007 and SDLx Trados 2007. I have a problem that I don’t seem to be able to fix on my own. Perhaps, someone will be able to figure it out because it is very frustrating.

When I proofread an ITD file and want to confirm a segment, SDL Edit shuts down and I get the following message “SDL Edit application has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem…”. Then, the window closes and another one appears with the following message “SDL Edit application has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Debug Close program”. Even if I click on the Debug button, the complete file closes.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled SDLx twice and this has not solved the problem. It happens to a few segments in the file, not the entire file though. I never know what to expect and ... when.

That's interesting. I have put a forum posting up as well with an SDL Edit problem: the only difference is that I get the message: "runtime error - application has to be closed" (or similar), and only in a few segments. It's very frustrating when you cannot work properly. Perhaps there is a connection, or a problem in SDL Edit?

Could be a setting issue Jun 2, 2009

I posted a response to Annett's issue, and I don't know if it applies to a Vista environment which may give you a different error message.

Check if your Auto Match option (Under Tools>Option>Auto Match is turned on. If it is, remove the checkmark by clicking on it and see if that fixes the problem. You loose the automatic date and number conversion, but that may be the lesser evil here.

Annett, I worked on another big ITD file and nothing happened! I was expecting the issue to come up... and nothing.

Friderike, thank you for the tip because it worked on the files that caused me trouble.
