It looks like this is a consacrated metaphor for brides, I can't think of what would be best to translate it. I have one idea, but would like some better solution.
"She was the blooming bride all right, but he couldn't help wondering whether..."

"Yes, I know. 'The blooming bride' and all that." (a chubby girl doubtful whether she would really be 'most beautiful' on her wedding day.)

În funcţie de context cred că mai poţi parafraza...

"Era ea mireasa îmbujorată, dar oare chiar va fi ca o floare ?..."

Ar putea fi folosit şi în sens ironic, sau chiar pentru a sublinia această diferenţă între ce se aşteaptă să fie o mireasă şi cum este de fapt respectivul personaj, totul depinde de context. Bineînţeles, Ioana, tu ştii cel mai bine cerinţele contextului. Mult spor în continuare! :)

Asker: Multumesc mult, Adina. Imbujorata are conotatia de sfioasa, si nu se potrivea cu personajul, care e o tipa destul de infipta si incapatinata. De obicei ea nu e prea imbujorata. Dar probabil ca s-ar potrivi daca ar fi fost vorba de alta mireasa. Am optat pentru varianta cea mai aproape de original, dar e o sugestie faina. Multumesc tuturor!
