Normally my internet connection is stable and fast, very reliable. But it did happen earlier this year, though only once, that it "disconnected itself" for a few seconds.
My Internet connection is very stable, I haven’t had a single problem for the last 5 years and even then it never failed more than 5/10 minutes. Otherwise, it takes just a phone call to my provider to have it back again. Fingers crossed! | | | Eric Zink Local time: 00:06 Membru (2012) din germană în engleză Serious problem away from home | Mar 21, 2020 |
I have all kinds of problems when I work on the road. About a year ago I remember missing a deadline because what should have been a straightforward delivery (upload and send) took somethink like an hour.

"Nowadays, the quality/consistency of my internet connection is never a problem for my work." Correct. But the "nowadays" implies that in the past, my internet connection was not good. That would be an incorrect assumption. | | | neilmac Spania Local time: 00:06 din spaniolă în engleză + ...
In the area where I live, we get frequent power cuts and brownouts, especially when the weather is very stormy and windy, or in heavy rain. Apart from that, my rural Wi-Fi sometimes blips off for a while, sometimes for only a few seconds and sometimes for an hour or more. In the worst case scenario so far, it was out of order for 24 hours or so, but that was at least a couple of years ago and it seems to be more stable nowadays. PS: A recent related development which I find extremely annoying, but haven't got round to doing anything about yet, is that now, when I have an issue with my Internet connection, when I phone the provider, I get an automatic message telling me to press button 1, 2 or 3, the latter being to report technical incidents. However, on my supposedly "smart" phone, no matter how many times I poke at the offending digit, it doesn't register in their system, so all I get is the recorded message on a loop and increasingly frustrated and angry. I must remember to email them about this at some point…

But now with almost total lockdown and people staying in, I often have to plug in the booster too for some rooms-I tend to change room where I work depending on sun, light. | | | Ventnai Spania Local time: 00:06 din germană în engleză + ... Cheaper, more reliable | Mar 21, 2020 |
I changed companies recently and now pay less for a highly reliable connection. There was a problem with a local node once but they fixed it within a few hours as quite a few people were affected.

I can't remember when I last had a problem with the Internet. (Should I be touching wood?) TV is another story. It goes out from time to time. Sometimes I can reset it by rebooting, but other times I have to wait until something gets fixed in my neighborhood. | | | Kay Denney Franţa Local time: 00:06 din franceză în engleză
Compared to back in the day - last century - when we had dial-up and I had to wait for my colleague to finish her search to log on myself... I clicked on "almost" only because I had to leech wifi from my phone while we were on holiday last summer. It was pretty amazing but I had to recharge the phone a lot. | | | Justin Peterson Spania Local time: 00:06 Membru (2007) din spaniolă în engleză
Just plug into the wall. Ethernet. 0 problems. But, some people like to wander all over the house ... or work on the road ... Wi-Fi always a gamble. Sometimes hardware, a cable, is the way to go.

Sometimes hardware, a cable, is the way to go. Assuming proper setup, wireless should not be an issue in the house - not for office work at least. I am using a cable for my workstation now, but only because my wireless adapter and my wireless keyboard/mouse combo refused to play nice with each other in close proximity. The connection still goes through a router, as my other devices are wireless and it never hurts to make use of at least a basic firewall, anyway. | | | Mario Freitas Brazilia Local time: 19:06 Membru (2014) din engleză în portugheză + ... There are rare occasions when there is maintenance on the lines, because we still have a switchboard somewhere in a corner down the street where all the connections of the four or six adjacent blocks are plugged into, and it requires a fast maintenance sometimes. There are also maintenance sessions late at night every now and then, and shortages in case of heavy storms. All these are usually sorted out in an hour or so. But they still happeen, so I can't really say "never". There is another issue, though, that doesn't affect my work, but is a lot more common, with is the connection slowing down from 120 Mbps to as low as 20 Mbps. I don't measure the speed all the time, but I notice it happens VERY frequently. ▲ Collapse | | | Lincoln Hui Hong Kong Local time: 06:06 Utilizator din chineză în engleză + ... If your wireless router supports 5G, consider using that option as opposed to 2.4G, which can interfere with Bluetooth. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Nowadays, the quality/consistency of my internet connection is never a problem for my work.
