Fairly often Aug 13, 2013

I have one translator friend who lives about 5 minutes' walk from me, so we socialise occasionally (limited by the fact that he prefers anglophone ex-pat bars whereas I stick to local Greek bars).

If 'socialise' is taken to encompass interaction via social networking sites, then I socialise with translators on a daily basis via Facebook.

Sorry Sheila, please don't be miffed! Aug 13, 2013

I certainly count that as one of the precious rare occasions!

I'm not a vary sociable person, so perhaps I should make more effort.

Daily Aug 13, 2013

I'm married to another translator, so we socialize all the time.

We have a few interpreter friends here in our little suburb and we tend to visit them once a week. Our previous neighbor was an ASL interpreter for the president before she retired a few years ago. We used to share war stories before she was hospitalized. Translators are harder to come by though.

'Other translators?' You mean the people on the Internet?

People are much more interesting face to face Aug 13, 2013

We exchanged at least 15 words just a few days ago. That was an important "socialise" for me - was it such a trivial matter to you?

I am so glad we socialised "ages ago" in your chronology, Sheila, brief though it was.

As to "what do you do?", some people in the village think I am writing a novel, others think I have retired, while others think I am a gardener by profession. Ha!

Ah yes, ProZ conferences Aug 13, 2013

ProZ.com Conferences cost a fortune when you add in flights, hotels, vast amounts of eating and drinking, and - of course - lost income, but you learn such valuable lessons, meet the best people and have great fun. It was lovely to meet you and so many others, Allison. I wish you'd all come closer to my home next time but I'm certainly not going to offer to organise a conference. Maybe someone on Tenerife would oblige?

A couple of times per week Aug 14, 2013

There are 2 colleagues in particular with whom I socialize a few times via Skype per week.

Sometimes our contact is business related, but since both have become friends we also share personal information about the events in our lives. (Or vent, if necessary. ) Hopefully I will be able to meet both face-to-face.
