Facebook Jul 14, 2010

Some of them I haven't heard of, others I would say were more for business networking than social networking. Facebook seems to be the default here, although there are still plenty who resist it!

Really, I have no idea. Jul 14, 2010

But the one everbody talks about is Facebook.

I keep away from it, but have a very passive profile on LinkedIn, as it lets me check titles and details of people who may turn up in my work.

Anyway, who needs Facebook, when we have Proz.com?

About three networks should be enough Jul 14, 2010

I recently read an article on Web Worker Daily, "Identifying Your Social Media Triad," which made a lot of sense to me. My three are ProZ, LinkedIn and a reading and books network, since I'm an avid reader.

Here's a link to the article, in case you're interested: http://webworkerdaily.com/2010/06/23/identifying-your-social-media-triad/

To answer the poll question, it seems to me that Facebook is the most popular social network in India at the moment, but I keep getting invitations to connect from networks with really weird names, so, you never know, things could change!

I would say... Jul 14, 2010

... Linkedin is more of a professional networking site (rather than social).

Facebook is the most popular in the UK but it is one of my pet hates. Yuck. I don't use it and never will.

Hyves Jul 14, 2010

In the Netherlands, the top social networking site is Hyves, a sort of MySpace. Facebook is gaining in popularity very quickly, but I think Hyves still remains the #1.

Facebook is regarded as purely for private fun.

Russian social networks Jul 14, 2010

The most popular website with Russian speakers and those living on the territory of former USSR is vkontakte.ru. I believe, it has English version, http://vk.com/

Facebook Jul 14, 2010

It's definitely Facebook here. Nearly all my friends are on it and even most of my family, including aunts and uncles etc. It's a great way to keep in touch and share photos with my sister in NZ too.
