Don't see the big controversy -- surprised they weren't doing it before.

Presumably though, part of the dictionary's inclusion criteria also involves looking at frequency of use of new words on web sites. So in effect, they probably already have a means of garnering data on new words from the public -- this is just a more "direct" way of doing it.

When I make up (sorry, ahem, "coin") terms, I was originally going to call them "neilogisms" but a friend said it sounded rude...

if they're particularly good and accurate, you could call them "nailogisms" (and yes, now I can see it can sound rude;-)). Looking forward to them, though.
