Description | The Norwegian Non-Fiction Writers and Translators Association (NFF) is a professional organization of writers and translators of non-fiction literature. The primary objective of the association is to protect the professional and financial interests of its members and to promote Norwegian non-fiction literature. Agreements and negotiations On behalf of writers and translators, NFF negotiates agreements with publishers to govern the publication of various types on non-fiction literature, e.g. books, textbooks, articles in professional journals, encyclopedia articles etc. The agreements stipulate inter alia the minimum rate of pay a writer or translator is to receive for the publication of one of his or her works. The Association provides legal assistance to members embroiled in conflicts or engaged in negotiations of a professional nature. On behalf of all non-fiction writers and translators, NFF negotiates the remuneration rate to be paid for secondary or subsidiary use of non-fiction works. The Association receives remuneration for books being lent from public libraries, the Public Lending Right, and it also takes part in annual negotiations with the Norwegian state concerning remuneration for all photocopying of textbooks, non-fiction books and journals. Remuneration for photocopying is handled by Kopinor, the Norwegian Reprographic Rights Organisation (RRO), which was created expressly for this purpose. Grants to writers and translators The remuneration received as a result of the negotiations is paid into the Norwegian Non-fiction Literature Fund, a fund which disperses the means in the form of grants to writers and translators of non-fiction literature. Applications may be made for travel grands and/or projecty grands. Allocation takes place once each year. International affiliations The Association is affiliated with the European Writers Congress (EWC), the Nordic Writers Council, the Federation internationale des traducteurs (FIT) and the association Support Index on Censorship |
