But there's a genuine gap in the market for someone who can handle the jobs that don't fit neatly anywhere — the unusual pair, the document that crosses domains, the brief that makes a project manager quietly panic. That's where I come in. I've translated Swedish financial reports on a repeat basis. I've handled court documents across Maltese, Italian, Spanish, and English. I've worked Maltese into Spanish — a combination that raises eyebrows, because the pool of people who can do that is very small. My background is academic as well as practical: Spanish and Iberian Studies at Oxford, French and Swedish at UCL, Linguistics at Manchester. I came to translation through a genuine love of how languages work, which I think makes me a more careful translator than someone who treats it purely as a technical exercise.
