How many innocent and excellent Persons had been condemned to Death or Banishment, by the practising of great Ministers upon the Corruption of Judges, and the Malice of Factions. How many Villains had been exalted to the highest Places of Trust, Power, Dignity, and Profit: How great a Share in the Motions and Events of Courts, Councils and Senates might be challenged by Bawds, Whores, Pimps, Parasites, and Buffoons

Pois, tendo esquadrinhado todas as pessoas de renome nas cortes dos príncipes de há cem anos, descobri como o mundo fora enganado por escritores prostituídos que atribuíram as maiores façanhas de guerra a cobardes, os conselhos mais sábios a idiotas, a sinceridade a aduladores, a virtude romana a traidores da pátria, a piedade a ateus, a castidade a sodomitas e a verdade a delatores. Quantas não foram as pessoas dignas e inocentes condenadas à morte e ao desterro graças à influência de importantes ministros sobre juízes corruptos e à maldade das fações políticas?
