Adanya kemajuan yang terjadi di bidang teknologi tidak hanya berdampak pada pola pikir masyarakat, namun berdampak pula pada pola pikir perusahaan. Salah satu perkembangan teknologi informasi yang paling besar adalah perkembangan internet sebagai struktur komunikasi antar pengguna. Internet sangat berguna pada hampir semua aspek kehidupan modern, tidak terkecuali terhadap pola pikir perusahaan dalam menjalankan bisnis dan penggunaan internet pun terus berkembang di seluruh dunia, termasuk di Indonesia.
Diangkat dari laporan Badan Statistika Nasional (2019), terjadi adanya peningkatan pemakaian internet di Indonesia selama periode 2014-2018, dibuktikan dengan peningkatan persentase jumlah penduduk yang memiliki akses internet pada di tahun 2014 sekitar 17,14 persen, meningkat menjadi 39,90 persen di tahun 2018. Pada periode tahun 2014, persentase penduduk usia 5 tahun ke atas yang mengakses internet pada tiga bulan terakhir berada pada sekitar 17,14 persen, jumlah tersebut meningkat menjadi 39,90 persen pada tahun 2018. Sebaliknya, penggunaan telepon kabel dalam lingkup rumah tangga cenderung menurun. Di tahun 2014, persentase lingkup rumah tangga yang menggunakan telepon kabel didapati sekitar 5,54 persen dan jumlah tersebut turun menjadi 2,61 persen pada tahun 2018.
