Man kann sich die Radikalität des Bruchs zwischen mythisch-
anthropofugaler Weltwahrnehmung und dem hellenistischen Anthropo -
zentrismus nicht klar genug vor Augen führen, wenn man zu begreifen
sucht, warum die Formulierung einer Philosophie der Menschenflucht
bis auf den heutigen Tag ein so ungemein schwieriges Unterfangen
geblieben ist.
Das gesamte philosophische Instrumentarium ist nämlich nach wie vor
gleichsam imprägniert vom Gattungsnarzißmus der Antike, von der
euphorisierenden
vogelfreie
Entdeckung,
Mängelwesen,
daß
sich
das
zum
ausgestoßene
Untier,
intellektuellen
das
Usurpator
aufschwingen kann, der seine Welt zu »erklären« vermag und sich als
Erklärender
und
über
seine
Erklärungen
in
ihrem
Zentrum
inthronisiert.
Das Untier ratifizierte auf diese Weise seine zivilisatorischen Erfolge,
die es erstmals gegen den Terror der natürlichen Umwelt des
»Primitiven« abschirmten 1 ) , und glorifizierte sich zum »homo sapiens«
— eine für den Mythos stupende Illusion, die dann ihrerseits im Verein
mit dem jüdisch-christlichen Vergewaltigungsgebot des »Machet Euch
die Erde untertan«
immer neue Bemächtigungs- und Kontrolltechniken ins Leben rief und
zu einem über zweitausendjährigen wechselseitigen Aufschaukel -
ungsprozeß
von
ideologisch
abgesicherten
Machtansprüchen

philosophisch sublimierten Omnipotenzphantasien der griechischen

The difference between the mytho-anthropofugal worldview and Hellenistic anthropocentrism cannot be made clear enough without acknowledging the “escape from mankind” as a monumental endeavor.
The entire philosophical ensemble is infected with the phylogenic pride of antiquity, the unfettered joy of discovery, deficiencies that elevate the Beast to an intellectual usurper. The Beast is capable of “describing” the world: it is enthroned at the center of this world by virtue of its explanatory power.
The beast thus ratifies its civilizational achievements. It begins as a bulwark against the unwieldy Umwelt of the primitive man1 and later glorifies itself under the name of Homo sapiens. This impressive myth cooperates with the Judeo-Christian imperative of “subdue the earth,” conjuring new methods of management and control in perpetuity. For over 2000 years, these processes have reinforced ideologically-protected power claims and preserved technological knowledge as a means of social control. Until recently, the omnipotence fantasies of Greek metaphysics seemed the most sustainable and gratifying...
[1] The following dialectic is intended here: primitive man inhabits an unconquered and unconquerable natural world with terrors and vagaries that threaten his survival. At the same time, however, he must abandon the instincts of beasts. The original mythos advances this condition of exposure and recognizes only two avenues of escape: a return to beastly nature (brutalization) or outright self-annihilation.
More advanced and reliable survival methods reached their first peak with the Neolithic Revolution, that is, the transition from hunting and gathering to agriculture and animal husbandry. Brutalization no longer had a perilous, hostile environment (Umwelt) as its existential foundation, and with that it lost plausibility.
New myths of stabilization towards a status quo replaced the ur-myth, as did myths of entitlement which were apt to exceed that very status quo. The rift between these myths equalizes the new-found ego of the philosopher. The security of the modern polis feeds his unprecedented confidence, and at the same time he claims a universal right to explanation and interpretation.

Source text - German Ich schicke voraus, daß ich kein Kunstkenner bin, sondern Laie. Ich habe oft bemerkt, daß mich der Inhalt eines Kunstwerkes stärker anzieht als dessen formale und technische Eigenschaften, auf welche doch der Künstler in erster Linie Wert legt. Für viele Mittel und manche Wirkungen der Kunst fehlt mir eigentlich das richtige Verständnis. Ich muß dies sagen, um mir eine nachsichtige Beurteilung meines Versuches zu sichern.
Aber Kunstwerke üben eine starke Wirkung auf mich aus, insbesondere Dichtungen und Werke der Plastik, seltener Malereien. Ich bin so veranlaßt worden, bei den entsprechenden Gelegenheiten lange vor ihnen zu verweilen, und wollte sie auf meine Weise erfassen, d. h. mir begreiflich machen, wodurch sie wirken. Wo ich das nicht kann, z. B. in der Musik, bin ich fast genußunfähig. Eine rationalistische oder vielleicht analytische Anlage sträubt sich in mir dagegen, daß ich ergriffen sein und dabei nicht wissen solle, warum ich es bin, und was mich ergreift.
Ich bin dabei auf die anscheinend paradoxe Tatsache aufmerksam geworden, daß gerade einige der großartigsten und überwältigendsten Kunstschöpfungen unserem Verständnis dunkel geblieben sind. Man bewundert sie, man fühlt sich von ihnen bezwungen, aber man weiß nicht zu sagen, was sie vorstellen. Ich bin nicht belesen genug um zu wissen, ob dies schon bemerkt worden ist, oder ob nicht ein Ästhetiker gefunden hat, solche Ratlosigkeit unseres begreifenden Verstandes sei sogar eine notwendige Bedingung für die höchsten Wirkungen, die ein Kunstwerk hervorrufen soll. Ich könnte mich nur schwer entschließen, an diese Bedingung zu glauben.
Nicht etwa daß die Kunstkenner oder Enthusiasten keine Worte fänden, wenn sie uns ein solches Kunstwerk anpreisen. Sie haben deren genug, sollte ich meinen. Aber vor einer solchen Meisterschöpfung des Künstlers sagt in der Regel jeder etwas anderes und keiner das, was dem schlichten Bewunderer das Rätsel löst. Was uns so mächtig packt, kann nach meiner Auffassung doch nur die Absicht des Künstlers sein, insoferne es ihm gelungen ist, sie in dem Werke auszudrücken und von uns erfassen zu lassen. Ich weiß, daß es sich um kein bloß verständnismäßiges Erfassen handeln kann; es soll die Affektlage, die psychische Konstellation, welche beim Künstler die Triebkraft zur Schöpfung abgab, bei uns wieder hervorgerufen werden. Aber warum soll die Absicht des Künstlers nicht angebbar und in Worte zu fassen sein wie irgendeine andere Tatsache des seelischen Lebens? Vielleicht daß dies bei den großen Kunstwerken nicht ohne Anwendung der Analyse gelingen wird. Das Werk selbst muß doch diese Analyse ermöglichen, wenn es der auf uns wirksame Ausdruck der Absichten und Regungen des Künstlers ist. Und um diese Absicht zu erraten, muß ich doch vorerst den Sinn und Inhalt des im Kunstwerk Dargestellten herausfinden, also es deuten können. Es ist also möglich, daß ein solches Kunstwerk der Deutung bedarf, und daß ich erst nach Vollziehung derselben erfahren kann, warum ich einem so gewaltigen Eindruck unterlegen bin. Ich hege selbst die Hoffnung, daß dieser Eindruck keine Abschwächung erleiden wird, wenn uns eine solche Analyse geglückt ist.
Translation - English I will start by saying that I am no art connoisseur, but merely a layperson. I have often noticed that the subject matter of a work of art allures me more than its formal and technical characteristics, on which the artist puts foremost importance. I lack an understanding of many mediums and some effects of art. I must mention this to ensure a lenient assessment of my endeavor.
In spite of this, works of art exert a powerful force on me, especially works of poetry and sculpture, less frequently paintings. I’ve been compelled to linger in front of them for a long time at the appropriate occasions, and I wanted to write about them in my own way: that is to say, I want to discover in what way they have an effect on me. In fields where I cannot do this, for instance in music, I am nearly incapable of enjoyment. A rationalistic, or perhaps analytic, tendency in me struggles against being captivated by such a thing when I won’t know why I am captivated, or what it is that captivates me.
In the process I have become aware of the paradoxical fact that just a few of the most magnificent and overwhelming artistic creations have remained unsolved enigmas to our understanding. We marvel at them, we feel overpowered by them, but we cannot say what they signify. I’m not adequately well-read to know if this fact has already been noticed, or if perhaps an esthetician has found that such a perplexity in our capacity for reason is even a necessary condition for the greatest effects that evoke a work of art. I could only determine with great apprehension that I believe in this condition.
This is not to say that the art connoisseurs or enthusiasts could find no words with which to promote such works to us. I should assume that they are articulate enough for that. But in the face of such an artistic masterpiece, everyone has something different to say, and no one says anything that solves the riddle for the simple admirer. Based on my perception, that which seizes us so strongly is only the intention of the artist insofar as he has succeeded in expressing it in the work and has allowed us to appreciate it. I know that it cannot be handled with mere intellectual comprehension; what the artist should awaken in us is the emotional state, the mental constellation which provided him the impetus for creation. But why shouldn't the artist's intention be communicated and put into words as any other fact of mental life? I thought that describing the great works of art would fail without the use of analysis. The work itself must make this analysis possible if it really is an effective expression of the artist's intentions and emotions. In order to reveal the artist’s intention, for the time being I must figure out the meaning and content of what is represented in the artwork; I must be able to interpret it. It is therefore possible that such a work of art demands interpretation, and that I can only come to understand why I am enthralled by such a powerful impression after I have completed my interpretation. I cherish the hope that this impression will suffer no mitigation if we succeed in such an analysis.
