Spanish term

craquelada

Spanish to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting Catalogue of an art exhibition
TIA!

Discussion

Edward Tully Nov 14, 2010:
Wendy: Precisely - if you check the poster's question you'll see that "Mesopotamia" is from 2004, that's why I would discount "craquelure" in this context.
Wendy Streitparth Nov 14, 2010:
@ Edward: Isn't crackled painting a modern invention to simulate the genuine craquelure effect?

crazed

As an adjective (crazed surface) I think that this would be more fitting, although the other words noted below are correct depending on the media and whether it was an intentional effect or deterioration of the original surface.

craquelure

"In art, craquelure (French: craquelé, Italian: crettatura) is the fine pattern of dense "cracking" formed on the surface of paintings, in particular due to the aging of paints. It is often used to determine the age of paintings and to detect forged art, as craquelure is a hard-to-forge signature of authenticity."
