Discussion

liz askew Sep 28, 2010:
Not one single hit on google on any medical site in English, that I can find for "third distal femur".
liz askew Sep 28, 2010:
Well, I find that hard to believe, seriously.
Mihaela Dinu (asker) Sep 27, 2010:
hi, I verified it today with a surgeon..English native surgeon. he told me it was correct..
liz askew Sep 27, 2010:
Hi, kindly look up English medical sites and you will not find "1/3 distal femur" - it makes no sense in English.

Figure 13-4 (A) Proximal third: Insert anterior half pins through the subcutaneous surface of the bone. If half pins are used, avoid penetrating the bone too far to protect the anterior neurovascular bundle, the anterior tibial artery, and the peroneal nerve. Alternatively, insert transfixion pins in a lateral to medial direction.
(B) Middle third: Insert anterior half pins through the subcutaneous surface. Alternatively, use transfixion pins from lateral to medial points.
(C) Distal third: Insert anteriorly placed half pins. Alternatively, insert transfixion pins in a posterolateral to anteromedial direction. These pins will fix both the fibula and the tibia.
