Giovanni corre alla serranda, ma è abbassata e chiusa. Tira fuori la pistola, spara ai cardini. Afferra la serranda, vi si aggrappa e riesce a spingerla in alto.
I've always thought that "cardini" were either hinges or railings. But this is a rolling metal shutter, and I presume locked down low. No hinges here and it doesn't make sense to shoot at the railings .. so does this mean the locks?

Cardine doesn't only mean hinge, it is alsa a more general term for 'punto d'appoggio'. In this case it's definitely the locks, they can be on the sides or at the base of the blind.

I think it is a light rolling shutter, hanged up in two points, but not locked... Giovanni shot at the hinges.

: la traduzione del termine e'corretta. Sono d'accordo che, generalmente le serrande, anche quelle di un tempo, non avevano cardini nel senso normalmente attribuito alla parola.
