German term

Feuerstandsfestigkeit

German to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation lignite briquetting
This comes from a paper on the briquetting of lignite

Bei der Brikettierung wird die mürbe und hydrophile Trockenbraunkohle in eine harte Briquettsubstans mit hoher Wasserbeständigkeit und Feuerstandsfestigkeit umgewandelt.

Al help appreciated

Discussion

TonyTK Dec 1, 2006:
My only caveat is that it might refer to transport/storage. Coal is prone to spontaneous combustion while briquettes are apparently far less likely to cause this problem due to their density - but I think Gillian's got it right.
John Jory Dec 1, 2006:
IMO the lack of googles makes this term highly questionable. IMO it should be 'feuerfest'. I suggest you take it from there ;-)

slow-burning

This is a very misleading term to use in conjuction with a fuel. I'd rewrite it and use "slow-burning".

agree David Moore (X) : You just beat me to it - I was about to suggest "which does not burn too fast", which comes to the same thing, innit...

agree TonyTK : "long burn time" (virtualweberbullet.com/newkingsford.html ). Maybe even stick stability in there.

agree jhp (X) : "Feuerstandfestigkeit" is a crucial property of refractories. "Slow burning" (best) or "fire stability".

disagree David Moore (X) : You DON'T "GET ENERGY" from refractory materials, do you?????

neutral Gillian Scheibelein : this term is generally used in conjuction with ceramics with a very high melting point (Al/Mg oxides). The product in question is a fuel that will burn slowly and steadily
