accessory side

Explanation:
The ignition switch doesn'tonly switch on the ignition, it also switches on various accessories (pumps, dashboard display etc.) Presumably these are grouped at one side of the switch, with the actual ignition switch itself on the other.

agree  Dave Calderhead: Just pipped me again Jack, though I did take extra time to give more electrifying answer (;-{)>//Spent all day - not at 'ome - musing "resist, or directly respond, or alternate signal in revolting fit of peak with spike to shock you?";-)

-> Thank you. I didn't realise I had sparked off a race, but Ohm-I goodness, your current answering rate still has the potential to shock.

neutral  Tony M: To be honest, Jack, it's nothing to do with 'grouping on one side', it's more to do with the 'before or after side' of the switch; the use of the word 'side' here is to be deprecated

agree  Tony M: Yes, they key point is that the switch can be turned to the 'accessory' position so that thing like the car radio work EVEN WITHOUT the engine ignition being 'on'. OFF / ACC / RUN / START

-> Thanks, Dusty, (:-{)> You put it perfectly succinctly - not like my errant fingers ;-)

agree  Ken Cox: With Dusty. Here 'accessory side' means the switched 'Accessory' lead/terminal of the switch (or the electrical extension of it).
