English term

Jeremiah

Non-PRO English to Japanese Art/Literary Names (personal, company) Finding an English name's equivalent in Japanese
My name comes from the bible and most closely translates from the original Hebrew into "chosen/blessed by God." I was curious as to if there was a Japanese equivalent. Also, Jeremiah was known in the bible as the "weeping prophet," so would there be a name based on this too? I'm not looking for a pronunciation, but a name that means the same thing.

disagree allearz : Knowledge or thorough research of the history of Japan and Christianity in Japan would have brought you to a different answer.

ジェレミア、ジェレマイヤ、エレミア、エレミヤ、

1.
エレミア(èrəmɪə) or エレミヤ(èrəmɪyə) are specific spelling of the name Jeremiah found in the Bible. Japanese people today express it as an individual name would be either ジェレミア(dʒèrəmάɪə) or ジェレマイヤ(dʒèrəmάɪyə).

Many other Bible names are also pronunced differently now and then in Japan. For example,
English: John
Bible name in Japanese: ヨハネ (yohanè)
Modern Japanese pronunciation: ジョン(dʒyon)

2.
Japanese translation for the other name of Jeremiah, "the weeping prophet", is expressed as "涙の預言者"(namidano yogensha).

disagree Yasutomo Kanazawa : 自分でエレミヤと回答しておきながら、David-sanの入れた全く同じ回答にDisagreeを入れているのは矛盾していませんか。また、正式名称はエレミヤのみで、他のエレミア、ジェレマイヤ、ジェレミヤで検索してもキリスト教に関するヒットは0です。
