Es ist der erste All-Sky-Transit-Vermessungssatellit.
Oder:
Es ist der erste Satellit zur Suche nach Planetentransiten.
(könnte man auch als Erklärung anfügen)
Ich würde eher auf "survey", verzichten, vor allem dann, wenn dies aus dem übrigen Text zwangslos hervorgeht, als auf Satellit.

Natürlich. Beim Beobachten der optisch ohnehin kaum erkennbaren Transits will man sich nicht auch noch von der Sonne blenden lassen. Allerdings würde man das nicht "Heck", sondern eher "Rückseite" nennen, weil es ja nicht in der Bewegungslinie liegt.

??? Ein Kegelmantel ist eine dreidimesionale Fläche. Ein Satellit (und auch unsere Erde) kann sich nach Isaac Newton nur auf einer Kreis- oder Ellipsenbahn in einer ebenen Fläche bewegen.
Der Kegel ist vermutlich der Öffnungswinkel des Teleskops, oder jedenfalls der Bereich, innerhalb dessen die PST-Funktion noch brauchbare Werte hat. Halbkegel-Angabe deshalb, weil es auf den Abstand zur Mittellinie (boresight) ankommt
