May 15, 2024 08:48: Yvonne Gallagher changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (1): James (Jim) Davis

Non-PRO (3): philgoddard, bluenoric, Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Hello James,
I think I posted it as a PRO. The law in question has more than 200 articles. Client told me that the crux is that the people involved are unmarried, however Italian legal-speak won't leave it at that.
I was looking for insights from others who might have had prior experience with reference to the specific law.

Another translator put it like this -
It is legal. The quote could be worth millions or even billions of euro. It is not a conservational blog and we have seven or more suggestions from "pro" translators. Phil can you explain why it should not be pro please? I fail to understand the logic.

Matrimonial/marital ties

For the purposes of Law 151/75, Mr./Mrs states he/she is free of matrimonial ties;

agree philgoddard : Or just unmarried.

Thanks Phil
neutral James (Jim) Davis : ties seems a bit loose for "vincoli" and pretty colloquial. I think Phil should post unmarried.

bonds of matrimony

Better take a look at the statute first. It relates to (AmE) marital (BrE) matrimonial family obligations, so bringing into the picture the old-fashioned term of 'bond/s of mattrimony.'

It doesn't mean solely single and unmarried: previously written on UK marriage certificates > bachelor & spinster, but the idea of marital consortium (not known as partnership)

Example sentence:

Marriage in the Catholic Church, aka holy matrimony, is the "covenant by which a man and woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life & which is ordered by its nature to the spouses' good, procreation & education of offspring.

The word (marital) consortium means "(the right of) association and fellowship between two married people".
