Norwegian term

prikke

Norwegian to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Software statistics, databases
Det ville dermed medføre et betydelig arbeid for *** å skulle aggregere og prikke alle dataene *** ber om innsyn i.
Prikke data?
This deals with managing databases and tabular info (Excel sheets) and accumulating data into spreadsheets...
Proposed translations (English)
3 +1 to tick /to mark (data)
3 mark, label
3 pinpoint?

Discussion

jeffrey engberg (asker) Feb 19, 2010:
let's chalk this one up to a bad original document I think flagging works well here. Still, anything and everything here may fit into the context - without being specific/professional enough for us to say EXACTLY what is the best term.
I think we should chalk this one up to sloppy writing.
Jennifer Andersen (X) Feb 19, 2010:
Instead of pinpoint... If pinpointing data is too narrow a term, what about flagging data? From your context, does it seem like *** needs *** to flag certain data for them?

Certainly a little mystery in this one...
jeffrey engberg (asker) Feb 19, 2010:
who and what Confidentiality, you know.
A government educational office will be aggregaring and prikking data for a certain journalist/internet-based news agency.
The data in question is Access or Excel spreadsheets, so aggregate is correct here. but prikke?

"Bake bake kake til mamma kommer,
Rulle rulle rulle rulle rundt i ring,
Prikke prikke prikke med pekefinger,
Høyt opp i taket og ned igjen!"
Per Bergvall Feb 19, 2010:
Strange choice of words... Let's assume that the first *** is a bank, and the other *** is skatteetaten: Aggregere would then be simply to collect, but you can say aggregate if pretentiousness doesn't bother you. From this aggregated information, *** is asking *** to 'prikke' data, which must be to pinpoint some fact or other. This is kind of contradictory - innsyn means opening up data for inspection, while pinpointing would be to isolate a particular item. So Jeff - if you can't say who *** and *** are, perhaps saying WHAT they are would make it clearer?

Det eneste jeg kan tenke meg (uten mer info) er at de med prikke mener å markere, sette merkelapper på eller å gi attributter til (som egentlig betyr det samme i denne sammenheng).

I believe this is meant to be the same as to "merke (av) data)

...aggregate and pinpoint data... I'm not sure if this makes sense in your context. Seems to be opposing functionality to both aggregate and pinpoint exact data. You can be the judge!
