I received a similar email this morning. I immediately suspected something wasn't right, especially since:
1. the email address the message is from is EMOND PUBLISHERS [email protected] (note the difference between the company's name -- with one M -- and the email address -- two Ms)
2. it's not addressed to me per se but rather to a (hidden) group of addresses, it seems

4. there are several misspellings throughout the message
The URL given for the company https://emond.ca/ and the name of the sender, Natalie Berchem, do appear to be legit, according to what I could find on LinkedIn.
Please take care and don't fall for scams!

The same email address, the same contact person's name, even the same rate.
And the file to be translated was attached to the first email, without any request of signing something like an NDA. | | | expressisverbis Portugalia Local time: 12:15 Membru (2015) din engleză în portugheză + ... This is strange... | Feb 20 |
I have received a job notification from that same company via Proz.
Here it is:
https://www.proz.com/job/2150570
If they are those scammers, this job post needs to be deleted and the company banned.

Wow, scammers are getting bolder, not just using TM-Town as their hunting field shamelessly, but now also posting jobs in here.
Perhaps they are taking advantage of the site endless update and the frequent bugs/glitch since last year.

Not being responsible for running a site where scammers fool paying professionals was what I needed to stop paying an annual subscription. As if 90%+ bottom feeders and "agencies" from China, the Middle-East, and what have you with their price over quality motto weren't bad already.

Hey, everyone.
Yep, I fell for it. This was actually my first scam in almost 7 years as a translator.
I guess I must not be very good, 'cause I did not immediately notice the double "M's" in EMMOND, LOL.
It must've been the same file, cause it had 33 pages--a lecture about Human Environment, Sustainability, etc.

This is when I got cold feet because the area code is from Massachusetts, not Toronto, where the company is located.
Anyways, just wanted to share. I'm still popping open a beer to "celebrate" the end of another gig.

Very often, after you completed part of the translation, they'll ask you to pay a sum in order to get paid (through a fake online bank), or they'll send you an overpayment fake check after completion of the job, asking you to refund them the exceeding sum.
Now, even if they only made $100 per scam, imagine the total if they successfully scam thousands of people. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Emmond.com Trados Studio 2022 Freelance | The leading translation software used by over 270,000 translators.
