UK Inflation Weighs on GBP, German Confidence Drops

The currency markets trade with limited risk appetite while the overall focus remains on Fed’s plans to exit the QE and Bernanke’s testimony due tomorrow. The emerging markets are getting ready to face the tighter monetary conditions which may result from QE tapering in US and the market behavior signals an increasing anxiety due to uncertainty. In UK, the lower-than-expected inflation in June sent GBPUSD to intra-day lows, while in the Euro-zone the inflation figures were in line with the expectations. EURUSD spiked to 1.3052 on the weak economic sentiment in Germany, yet data gathered limited reaction in euro-complex.
Due in the afternoon, the US CPI and industrial production should trigger some volatility in the currency levels before the focus shifts to what Bernanke has to say tomorrow.

Inflation in UK

Released in the morning, the UK inflation advanced from 2.7% to 2.9%, slightly lower than 3% expected leaving the specs on further guidance in confusion. GBPUSD fell to 1.5047 as markets tended to price in a further easing, yet the downside remained limited with yearly price inflation still on its way up. One thing is sure; the June inflation will at least avoid Mr. Carney from writing an open letter to Chancellor Osbourne on how to control prices this month (as bank’s mandate requires such explanation when the inflation deviates more than 1 percentage point from the target, 2%).
Despite last week’s GBP-rally post-Bernanke, the trend and momentum indicators regarding the cable remain in the red zone while bids are still likely to give support to GBPUSD above 1.5000, if breached should open the way for further lows.		Translation - Arabic
