Background & Experience

A native Vietnamese speaker, I moved to Manchester, United Kingdom in December 2018. Before leaving Vietnam, I had had 7 years' experience in various industries. My first job was as a Teaching Assistant teaching English as a foreign language to Vietnamese students of 4 to 18 years of age. I then moved on to work for World Wide Fund for Nature Vietnam (WWF-Vietnam) where I had the chance to work with colleagues from all over the world and visit many national parks in Vietnam. I gained experience translating/ interpreting conservation-related fields including climate change, wildlife, fishery, forestry, etc.

I then worked for EU-Vietnam Business Network, a European Union co-funded project to support companies from 28 EU Member States to establish their businesses in Vietnam. I acted as a bridge to help smooth communication between European companies and Vietnamese importers via email and by providing B2B interpretation services. I also provided translations of Vietnamese laws to help European companies understand the legal requirements for their products in Vietnam. The EU companies are in various sectors including Food & Beverage, Furniture & Interior Decor, Beauty & Perfumery and many other sectors.

Hobbies

I am a book and movie enthusiast. I read my Kindle everyday. My favourite books to read are fiction, psychological thrillers, mysteries and crimes.

I always have Netflix or NowTV on the background when I am home. I watch lots of shows and movies (sometimes too much!) to continually improve my listening, speaking and knowledge of colloquial English.

Once I am committed to a deadline, I will deliver the work on time. I don't take unreasonable rush job because that means compromising the quality of my deliverables. I also won't suggest a deadline that is too far away because I understand that your business relies on my work.

• Proofreading Vietnamese - English university transcription for an agency based in the US;
• Foerster-F Project with Appen to translate job titles;
• Provided English - Vietnamese translation for a 60 second digital commercial to raise awareness of dog & cat meat trade in South East Asia, for an animal welfare NGO based in Bangkok, Thailand;
• English - Vietnamese translation of the "Discontinuation of Residential Water Service for Non-Payment Policy" of the City of San Luis Obispo;
• English - Vietnamese translation of approximately 700 words for Formula 1 and their Applications: Application F1 TV Pro and Application F1 TV Access
• Ongoing projects: Vietnamese to English translation of immigration related documents for the UK government (More than 300,000 words and counting)
• Ongoing projects: English to Vietnamese translation of court related documents for cases in the Crown Court in the UK (about 10,000 words so far)
