Source text - English This study described the synthesis and characterization of 1,4-bis(N-methylimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (I.2PF6) and 1,3-bis(N-methylimidazol-1ylmethyl)mesitylene (II.2PF6) used as precursors to N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) complexes. The mercury complexes were synthesized by direct mercuration method of salt (I) and salt (II) with mercury(II) acetate. Similarly, the silver complexes were synthesized via a simple complexation reaction of salt (I) and salt (II) with a basic metal, silver oxide. Salt (I), salt (II) and their corresponding silver and mercury complexes were characterized by means of NMR spectroscopy. The 1H NMR shows disappearance of imidazolium C2 protons in the spectra of the complexes suggested that complexation had taken place. The complexes were used in an attempt to synthesize cerium complexes via redox transmetallation reaction. The progress of the reaction was monitored using 1H NMR spectroscopy, which showed the appearance of new signals, indicating that a reaction had occurred.
Translation - Malay Kajian ini menerangkan tentang sintesis and pencirian 1,4-bis(N-metilimidazola-1-il-metil)benzene (I.2PF6) and 1,3-bis(N-metilimidazola-1-ilmetil)mesitilena (II.2PF6) yang digunakan sebagai pelopor kepada sintesis kompleks karbena N-heterosiklik (NHC). Kompleks raksa-NHC disintesis melalui kaedah peraksaan terus daripada garam (I) dan garam (II) dengan merkuri(II) asestat. Kompleks argentum-NHC pula disintesis melalui kaedah pengkompleksan mudah garam (I) dan garam (II) dengan logam alkali, argentum oksida. Garam (I), garam (II) dan kompleks raksa dan argentum masing-masing dianalisis dengan menggunakan spektroskopi NMR. Spektra 1H NMR menunjukkan kehilangan puncak C2 proton imidazola kompleks argentum-NHC dan raksa-NHC. Ini mencadangkan bahawa pengkompleksan telah berlaku.
