Spanish term
arreglo de dueño a la participación del cónyuge

Personal financial statements
My text is a student manual for an introductory course on credit analysis. The manual was written in Spanish for Puerto Rican students; my English version will be used primarily in the US Virgin Islands, though I was instructed to "just use standard US English."
I'm having trouble deciphering the following paragraph, particularly the phrase marked with asterisks. I don't think it was carefully written or proofread in Spanish (the variant spelling of cónyuge being my first clue!).
Here's my attempt:
A person may choose to prepare personal financial statements separately from his or her spouse. However, if they have jointly owned rental properties or any other arrangement in which both spouses have a participation in the ownership of a money-making asset, this might not be evident in the statements. As a result, the first person’s capital might be overstated.
First, did I get the general idea right? Second, can you improve on the wording of the "arreglo de deuño a la participación del conyugue [sic]" phrase?
Thank you for taking the time to consider this question, and thank you in advance for any suggestions.
