That alone for which you accept to die is whereby you can live (z franc.) Explanation: Trzeba tłumaczyć z francuskiego bezpośrednio, nie przez polski. Francuski oryginał brzmi: "Ce pour quoi tu acceptes de mourir, c'est cela seul dont tu peux vivre". Polskie tłumaczenie jest dobre, ale w dalszym tłumaczeniu na angielski rezultat mógłby wyjść inny niż w tłumaczeniu bezpośrednio z oryginału. Przede wszystkim "thanks to" nie pojawi się w tłumaczeniu z francuskiego na angielski. Zaznaczam, że propozycję tłumaczenia dałem z francuskiego oryginału, nie z polskiego tłumaczenia. Alternatywnie, jeżeli ktoś naprawdę nie chciałby używać czasownika "accept", można dać "are ready for". Zamiast "whereby" można dać bardziej dosłownie "wherein", ale to byłoby może ciężko zrozumieć bez odniesienia do oryginału, więc raczej bym tego nie robił. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2013-07-24 10:32:19 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- W angielskim funkcjonują tłumaczenia z "should", ale uważam, że to zmienia nieco sens oryginału. W oryginale nie ma powinności: "tylko dla tego powinieneś żyć, dla czego byłbyś gotów umrzeć", jest wyraźne stwierdzenie, że tylko sprawa, motywacja, która uzasadnia śmierć, daje życie lub czyni je wartościowym. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2013-07-24 10:42:46 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Unikam "live for" ze względu na "dont" w oryginale. Mam wrażenie, że jest tu niuans, który oznacza życie sprawą raczej niż dla niej. |
