English term or phrase: a toiling music-hall music
Hi! Here there's a little bit of context:

"Circa 1932. Thomas's bare room in the county home in Baltinglass. A toiling music-hall music distantly."
This is describing the setting of a play. I think I can translate it for "Suena música de fondo de la época". Do you think this will be a good translation? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for helping!
