Nu prea exista un termen incetatenit in romana dar in principiu e vorba de faptul ca un investitor construieste un obiectiv din resurse proprii, il exploateaza un interval de timp calculat pentru a-si amortiza investitia si apoi, dupa un termen care se stabileste in contractul BTO, cedeaza obiectivul statului roman (sau daca e cazul unui alt partener) . Se foloseste ca si formula pentru finantarea unor investitii mari gen autostrazi, centrale atomice etc.
