"The Air starter unit is a diesel-powered engine which operates the compressor.

Io direi "Unità di avviamento ad aria", ma non so se questo è il nome veramente utilizzato nell'industria aeronautica. Per adesso non riesco a trovarlo, qualcuno lo sa?

Ho fatto una domanda al cliente, vedremo se mi risponderà.
Per adesso scelgo questa traduzione, nel mio testo terrò comunque l'inglese fra parentesi nella prima occorrenza.
Fabrizio, ho visto quel forum dove in effetti i partecipanti usavano gli acronimi inglesi, penso anche per comodità. Per un manuale d'uso penso comunque che si possa riportare la dicitura per esteso e in italiano.
Aggiungo il termine al glossario, ma se cambio idea o mi viene richiesto di rimetterlo all'inglese, magari aggiornerò la voce del glossario

agree  Fabrizio Zambuto: this looks fine although I notice that even Italian sites tend to leave it in En:"ASU". Still, good for side explanation.

da quello che capisco io, lo chiamano Air Starter dappertutto. Poi la traduzione è più o meno quella che dai tu (qui aggiungono aria compressa)
