English term or phrase: star camera
Bonjour,

Explanation:
You may not be convinced by it, but I like it... there are only about 56,000 hits for "star camera" anyway so the 2,870 for this are not too discouraging, in my opinion.

"Stardust" (a NASA spacecraft with a mission to collect samples of matter from comets) uses two star cameras:

"On Monday [13 Nov 2000 - PS] , the STARDUST spacecraft was commanded to exit safe mode with the *star camera* A controlling the orientation. It has been working flawlessly. Additional fault and memory dumps were performed to ensure the entire spacecraft was free of proton events."
http://stardust.jpl.nasa.gov/news/solarflare.html

So it certainly appears to be in use... I'd go for it!

PS Is it the one developed at Ørsted DTU?

"The American space administration NASA, launched the twin
satellites GRACE (Gravity and Climate Experiment) from
Plesetsk in Russia on 17 March. Each satellite contains a special
edition of the *star camera* developed at Ørsted·DTU. The two
star cameras are connected with an ultra precise radar link
between the two satellites. The two star cameras ensure that
the radar always points precisely at the phase centre of the
radar receiver of the other spacecraft..."
