stab or band neutrophils - manual count
Mature neutrophils are sometimes called “segs”, named for their segmented nucleus. Immature neutrophils are called “bands” because their nucleus appears banded. These 2 counts together make up the absolute neutrophil count, or ANC.
The cell in this slide is similar to the seg, except it has a ban-shaped nucleus. It is called a band but is sometimes referred to as a stab. Bands are one stage younger than segs.

: thanks, I learned something :-) didn't make the connection between "staven" and "stab" - duh! Not very common though it seems, or am I mistaken?
