Since I'm not sure what else your author says, I'm unsure whether the rest would be "questions about the intellect and society" or even "intelligence and society" or "intellectualism and society" or "questions about intellectual and social issues", etc. But since art is usually evaluated in terms of form and expression, I think the meaning of the first part is pretty clear.
