English to German: Cooling concept for ASD YU11 and YU12 General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Energy / Power Generation
Source text - English 4 SYSTEM LAYOUT
The new system part will require booster pumps to achieve a sufficient mass flow trough the new heat exchanger EA1. The new booster pumps (PA1 and PB1 in appendix 3) will each have a capacity of 100% (2x100%) and run singly. If the running pump is lost the other will start automatically.
In the closed loop each division will get an own cooling part with two circulation pumps (2x100%). In this way the impact of the overall plant availability can be kept to a minimum. Each pump will have a shut off valve on each side to make it possible for quick and easy maintenance. There is also a check valve after each pump to avoid backflow in the system.
The required cooling capacity is assumed with an ASD system from ABB. The preliminary layout of the equipment is shown in [2] for division 10 and in [3] for division 20, where the total heat loss to air also is shown. The heat loss to air is assumed to be:
ASD-room: 1 kW Input transformer protection
10 kW Power converter ACS 5000
21 kW Output filter OPTION
3 kW Low voltage swichgear
1 kW PLC cubicle
1 kW Incoming breaker
37 kW in total
Transformer room: 10 kW (assumed water cooled transformers)
It is assumed that the heat losses to air are taken into account when the new buildings ventilation system is dimensioned.
A cooling system for the ASD from Robicon would be very similar, except for the transformers, which for this type is included in the ASD package. The transformers from XXX are assumed to be water cooled though they will be both bigger and heavier. If air cooled transformers are chosen there will be an air-cooler in the transformer rooms instead of the built-in heat exchanger shown in appendix 3. The air-coolers will in this case have the minimum cooling capacity of 45 kW each, see [2] and [3].
The system includes a shut off valve on each side of the heat exchangers and pumps and also a control valve for each heat exchanger, to be able to adjust the required flow rates. To avoid the risk for condensing on the pipes and in the equipment due to low cooling temperatures, a three way valve with a heat exchanger bypass is suggested. This valve will automatically bypass the heat exchanger if the cooling temperature is below 15°C. In appendix 3 a preliminary flow diagram is shown for the cooling concept.
Germanic(Other) to English: Wenn der Kalk rieselt: Calcitfällung General field: Other Detailed field: Science (general)
Source text - Germanic(Other) Wie kommt Kalk, chemisch Calciumcarbonat, in einen See?
Translation - English How does lime, chemically calcium carbonate, finds its way into the lake? One way is by Alpine tributaries which have washed out lime on their way through the “limestone alps”. But lime is also formed directly in the waterbody assisted by plants. As generally known, plants need carbon dioxide for photosynthesis In the event of massive algae growth, or so-called algal bloom, carbon monoxide becomes scarce and hydrogen and bicarbonate, in a chemical balance with carbon dioxide, serves as carbon source for the generation of organic substance. This process is called assimilation. The process of bicarbonate assimilation generates carbonate. Carbonate reacts with calcium and forms lime which is virtually insoluble in water. Instead it forms into crystals and aggregates called calcites which precipitate, a process experts call biogene decalcification. On leaves of aquatic plants lime can sometimes form dense encrustations.
This calcite precipitation occurs during multiple events throughout the year. It is literally induced by certain algae varieties. Each time, this process permanently withdraws phosphorus from the lake. Furthermore, the lime aggregates “catch“ clay particles which ultimately suspend with the calcite in the sediment.
