axis or divisions

Achse means axis, but since it appears a matter of divisions for a group it could be argued.
Peer comment(s):

agree Steffen Walter : divisions

Thank you
neutral Harald Moelzer (medical-translator) : Different product ranges do not necessarily represent "divisions" or "business units"...

Thank you
agree Helen Shiner : I think these are more than product ranges - divisions are used in the UK certainly.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks, I put divisions, as that is what I was thinking myself. As for the word "axis" - "axis" is singular and "axes" is plural. "

areas

"Companies across the group are split across five areas:"

or "The companies within the group are split across/divided into five areas:"

to avoid sayinbg "across" twice in rapid succession.
Peer comment(s):

agree Harald Moelzer (medical-translator) : Fits best IMO (apart from product ranges, which however does not match "Selektiver Vertrieb"). Different product ranges do not necessarily represent "divisions" or "business units"...

category

As No-En-De already suggested , I consider "division" another option.
Peer comment(s):

agree Courtney Sliwinski : I think this works best

Thank you, Courtney. Have a nice weekend.
agree Steffen Walter : My vote for "division". "Achse" seems to have been borrowed from the French "axe(s)", which is very commonly used in business lingo.

Danke schön, Steffen, auch für den Hinweis auf den möglichen Zusammenhang mit der fr Sprache. Wieder was gelernt! Schönes Wochenende!

product group

... could be another option here but I am also in favour of "divisions".
Peer comment(s):

neutral Harald Moelzer (medical-translator) : Would have been my choice, too - but does not fit the topic "Selektiver Vertrieb"...

Yes and no. Surely the "selektiver Vertrieb" also includes some specific product ranges/groups (not mentioned here).

branch

another option, I think. imho
Peer comment(s):

neutral BrigitteHilgner : Darunter versteht man in der Regel in der Geschäftssprache eine Filiale/Niederlassung - das ist hier wohl nicht gemeint.

agree Helen Shiner : This is fine. The English branch need not mean the German Branche.

business unit

Just another option, large German companies often talk about their various business units
Peer comment(s):

neutral Harald Moelzer (medical-translator) : Different product ranges do not necessarily represent "divisions" or "business units"...

neutral Helen Shiner : I don't think this would be appropriate if the target text is to address a UK audience. It sounds like a building on an industrial estate.
