Deutsch term

aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben

Deutsch > Englisch Kunst/Literatur historical text on WWI
Text about Russian-German negotiations to end WWI. Russians displeased with German ultimatum, walk away from negotiating table:

So nicht, heißt es auf russischer Seite. Trotzki reist ab. Wobei beide Parteien, sagt Jutta Petersdorf (a historian), klar betonen: Aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben, an einem endgültigen Scheitern ist keiner Seite gelegen.

Aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben? Delayed is not forgotten somehow isn't doing it for me....

If you want to stick to an idiomatic expression.

postponed doesn't mean abandoned

or, with a bit more drama:
"postponed doesn't mean forsaken".

A postponement is not a cancellation.

Often the Germans use nouns where the verb form woulod be preferred in English; here, I believe that the opposite is true.

Out of memory is not out of mind

a colloquial saying that might fit here, otherwise you might want to work with denial not solving the problem. Aufschieben is more about denial than abandonment.
