There is a several hundred years old tradition of using small agricultural water reservoirs in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
These relatively shallow reservoirs, also called dams, but which are actually ****barrage ponds****, are built across gently sloping valleys in order to accumulate runoff or water from perennial streams. Such reservoirs are also called ponds, a term which covers the same; a small water body with a single dike across the valley on which a concrete dike and often a separate overflow (small spillway) are constructed.
