The duty of care placed on the police towards a detainee is explicit during the time
that a person is in police custody.
Pre-release Risk Assessments are the primary means by which Custody Staff can
manage such risks.
The aim of Pre-release Risk Assessments is to prevent detainees after release:
o Harming themselves or others,
o Becoming ill due to their condition,
o Or being placed into circumstances where there is a foreseeable risk that
they will come to some harm.
