“You’re a damn sight,” said Edith, nodding, her permed hair bobbing with the motion. She took a dainty sip from her glass, sighed, and then swallowed the rest of the contents in three gulps.
“So I’ve been told,” Holly replied.

“We should do this more often,” Holly said, breathing heavily. A moment later, she felt warm fingers give her own hand a comforting squeeze.
“I’d like that, dearie. But I was telling you straight, you look like shit. What’s going on?”
Holly opened her eyes fully again, peering across the divide between the balconies, smiling at Edith. “You’re sweet.”
“And I have a bullshit meter the size of Alaska. Don’t dodge. What’s wrong?”
