Guarantee of payment of the original judgment of a court. When a judgment is appealed, a bond is usually required to guarantee that if the appeal is unsuccessful, funds would be available to pay the original judgment as well as costs of the appeal. This serves to discourage an individual from appealing merely to stall for time or for frivolous reasons.

Sunt doua notiuni diferite, nu sunt convinsa ca exista echivalent in sistemul romanesc, poate cineva cu mai multe cunostinte in domeniu sa ne lamureasca. In principiu e vorba de **garantii**.
Appeal bond:Guaranty of payment of damages (plus estimated cost of appeal) assessed by an appellate court. Posted by a losing party (who is appealing a lower court's judgment), it is cashed if the appeal is unsuccessful. An appeal bond serves to discourage frivolous appeals that waste the courts' time (see abuse of process).
Attachment bond
1 : a bond given by a plaintiff seeking to attach the defendant's property that ensures payment to the defendant of any damages suffered because of the attachment in the event the plaintiff loses the suit
2 : a bond given by a defendant in order to have an attachment released that ensures payment of a judgment awarded to the plaintiff
