jerry-rig
To me, it sounds like they think it will eventually lead to jerry-rigging or having to do makeshift alterations to that platform, just to make it work or to keep it running in some reasonable manner (with a limp, very likely).
Rautalankaviritys is often literally jerry-rigging something with a wire just to keep it in one piece for a while. Usually until you may (or may not) replace it with a better or the proper solution that you could/should have used or done in the first place.
Can refer to (usually) badly done, quick makeshift repairs.

And indeed, in many cases it doesn't mean the literal use of wire for jerry-rigging, of course, but just having to use more and more resources and one support feature after another, just to keep Item X working even at a basic level.

Example sentence:
On the drive home, my muffler was dragging on the asphalt. I jerry-rigged it with a piece of wire and gaffers tape so it would stay in place until I had it repaired.
Myydään hyvä crossipyörä. Asiallisesti korjattu alkuperäisosilla, ei mikään rautalankaviritys.

Jerry-rigging seems to be a good way of expressing the idea in English (also as regards the (in)formality of the expression).
Example sentence:
Temporary Fixes and Jerry-Rigged Repairs. Whats your best/worst?
a jerry-rigged switch to keep the machine in operation until it can be repaired

Guilty as charged, and that's why my answer was originally prefaced by "As explained by Susan Ruusunen", but my copy/paste operation unfortunately failed and the preface was accidentally omitted! My apologies :-(
