Forum: Translator resources
Topic: Issue with DeepL
Poster: Mohamed Zeid
Post title: TransLLM

This could be a bit late, but maybe it's worth-sharing. I found this Trados plugin "TransLLM" amazing at forcing glossary terms. It also uses local LLMs, so you have full control on your client's data. It's also really fast if you have a machine with 8gb GPU. Here is a link to it.

[url removed]

To me personally, LLMs and NMT/MT struggle most of the time with terminology management and the same term could be translated in different variations from a string to another. This was always a showstopper for me to rely on automated translations. TransLLM fix most of these issues, but I found out that it mostly depends on the LLM used when it comes to terminology consistency. You need a model that's instruction-based. I use Google TranslateGemma:12b and it's simply amazing.

Forum: Translator resources
Topic: Issue with DeepL
Poster: Gwyneth Chiu
Post title: About DeepL

This is a known limitation of DeepL at the moment. Unfortunately, the custom translation preference / memory feature is no longer consistently supported, especially after recent updates.
DeepL currently applies short-term, session-based adaptation in some environments, but it does not reliably store long-term personal lexical preferences (such as always choosing “quand” over “lorsque”).
The disappearance of your previous preferences is most likely due to:
Account login changes
Browser cache/cookie resets
Or a backend update on DeepL’s side
At present, there is no official way to fully restore permanent word-choice preferences inside DeepL itself. Many professional translators therefore rely on:
CAT tools (Trados, MemoQ, Phrase) with term bases
Or external glossary enforcement
You may try contacting DeepL support directly, but based on current user reports, this feature has effectively been deprecated.

Forum: Translator resources
Topic: Issue with DeepL
Poster: Ivan Rorick
Post title: Same here - I've also raised a ticket

Just chiming in to reply that I've been having the same issues.

It ignores glossary entries about half the time now. I'm told by a tech-savvy friend that this might be the result of DeepL now incorporating AI that "helpfully" decides, based on context, that glossary entries are not appropriate and figures out what it thinks would be a better word choice but we all know what generally happens when changes no one asked for are implemented in software to make it more "helpful."

Another really awful problem is that I can't edit glossary entries once I've added them. I can change them and save them but it reverts back to the original entry after I've saved the edit. Also the delete button (the little garbage can) doesn't work at all.

Edit to add that I can, thankfully, edit glossaries and delete glossary entries in the web version of DeepL and these are reflected in the glossary in the desktop app, so for that issue at least there's an easy workaround.

[Edited at 2025-11-03 16:45 GMT]

I am just checking if other translators may have the same problem, and the answers so far show that yes. And if somebody might have a solution, and it seems it is not the case.
So yes, I will now contact DeepL.

[quote]Baran Keki wrote:
Instead of complaining about it on this forum, I suggest you contact DeepL personally and describe your problem in detail.
Forum: Translator resources
Topic: Issue with DeepL
Poster: Tomás Cano Binder, BA, CT
Post title: I have entered a ticket - Things cannot continue this way

For a very long time now, I am experiencing problems like these with a paid account in Deepl Pro:

- For a couple of months now: when translating in the Deepl Pro app's window, the glossaries are randomly ignored.

- For about a week now: the glossaries are randomly ignored ALSO when translating full documents in the Deepl Pro app.

- Today: the glossary functions fail altogether, and I cannot edit my glossaries, delete/add them again... The functionality is just shut down.

In addition to this, I think the Deepl Pro app is not improving, but worsening with time:
- Now it switches every couple of minutes to the "new technology", which produces much worse translations, at least into Spanish.

- Glossaries are very cumbersome to edit and maintain (too many clicks just to add a new term or edit a term).

- Deepl makes strange decisions and "hammers in" incorrect parts of speech into the text, e.g. placing a verb from the glossary where a noun should be used and other strange behaviours.

I have sent a ticket to Deepl about the glossary issues, which is the worst thing for me. I use Deepl Pro just because of the glossary feature!! Without proper glossary functionality, Deepl is out! I sincerely hope this is not structural and just a temporary issue. I cannot keep using Deepl Pro in these conditions and I am already researching other solutions to replace Deepl Pro.

[Edited at 2025-11-02 09:02 GMT]

It's difficult to use the Glossary. The clarify option is not accessible. I couldn't access DeepL pro for weeks. And it's very annoying it always switched automatically to new generation, which is very bad and unnatural in German. Maybe we should contact the support.
