I was born in Southern Africa and attended a British School. After completing my O levels at an International School, I moved to the Netherlands, where I learned Dutch and completed Pre-University Education (VWO). I studied Biology at Utrecht University, with the option of submitting assignments and giving presentations in English. As I wished to combine my interest in natural sciences with a career involving languages, I completed a Dutch-English translation programme in 1996. I worked on legal and financial translation and revision projects as an in-house translator for 13 years.
Besides translating for a wide range of clients, mostly in the fields of Law, Insurance, Appraisals, Architecture, Infrastructure & Environment, Energy Industry, my in-house activities also involved translation memory and terminology management, proofreading, Windows and Trados troubleshooting and contributing to company strategy. In 2009, I launched my freelance business.
