German to English: Internationalisierung General field: Bus/Financial
Translation - English Internationalisation means the geographic decentralisation of business activities on to international markets.
This is forever gaining more importance through an increasing globalisation of all business activity.
Motives for internationalisation are securing turnover through greater market intimacy, reducing wages and non-wage labour costs, circumventing import restrictions, realisation of transport cost advantages, investment funding measures through foreign states as well as independence from developments in the exchange rate.
The concrete form that internationalisation takes is dependent on the situation in a particular company and their strategy.
Depending on capital and management perfromance the stages of internationalisation are export, the granting of licences, franchising, joint ventures, overseas branches and subsidiaries.
However, where the internationalisation of service providers is concerned other emphases apply.
German to English: Heiliges Römisches Reich General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: History
Jahrhundert so genannte Heilige Römische Reich.
Translation - English The conventional notion is that the history of Germany started with the formation of the Roman-German Empire in the 10th/ 11th
century, even though a German identity was far from being developed.
Since the 8th century the German language has been identifiable as a seperate language, subdivided into numerous dialects and continuosly developing.
The inhabitants of the empire were for the most part the descendants of the Germanic peoples and Celts, albeit in the west also from Roman settlers and in the east from the west Slavic tribes known as the Wends or Elbe Slavs.
The Roman-German Empire developed out of the East Frankish Kingdom in the Early Middle Ages, which in turn arose as a consequence of the crisis in the Frankish Empire in the 9th century. In the 10th century the Ottonian Dynasty was able to win the title of Emperor in the western (Roman) part of the Empire and laid the foundations for what has been called the Holy Roman Empire since the late 13th century.
The Ottonians, as well as the Salians and Staufer, who succeeded them, all used the imperial church in varying degrees to support their rule.
The medieval Roman-German Emperors viewed themselves as continuing the tradition of the ancient Roman Empire (imperial idea), this repeatedly led to tension between the universally powerful emperorship and the papacy.
As early as the last days of the Staufian dynasty (12th/ 13th century) the kingdom began losing its power. In any case the Roman-German Kings were never absolute rulers, rather they emphasised the aspect of consensual rulership of the kingdom in alliance with the great nobles.
In contrast to the west European monarchies of England and France, the Roman-German Empire never developed a centralised imperial government. The power of the many territorial princes increased further in the Late Middle Ages, the Golden Bull of Emperor Karl IV decreed the Empire would be lead by an elective monarchy chosen by the electoral princes. This form of decentralised rule, which by all means had its advantages, would ultimately form the foundations of German federalism.
Additionally the rise of urbanism took place in the Late Middle Ages.
German to English: Frühpädagogik General field: Other Detailed field: Education / Pedagogy
Translation - English In Germany early childhood education is a subject in technical colleges for social pedagogy e.g. the academies for social work in Bavaria, where those who graduate as state approved nursery teachers principally find employment at institutions of primary education.
Until several years ago early childhood education could only be studied in a few institutions of higher education.
There were no indigenous Degree courses with early childhood educational content.
These were mostly personally chosen focuses within the framework of courses in social pedagogy at technical colleges or educational theory/ pedagogy at universities.
Numerous institutions of higher education, who had been offering Bachelor and Master level courses in the education, care of and nurture of children since 2004, decided to collaborate. In this way overarching curricula and teaching methods for the professionalisation of early childhood education were developed.
Since 2011 graduates of these courses have been referred to as childhood educators.
