English to French translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Finance (general) / drop through to profit - consequences of COVID-19
English term or phrase: drop through to profit

"Accordingly, due to the extraordinary financial consequences of COVID-19 to XXX’s operations in these sectors, particularly the **drop through to profit**, XXX mutually agreed to provide a franchise fee waiver for the YYY franchises during FY 2020."

"Significant actions were adopted to mitigate the impact to the **drop through to profit** from reduced volumes which enabled ZZZ to achieve an underlying operating margin of x.x% which has declined from y.y% in FY 2019."

"However, as a result of the pandemic, XXX has not been able to shed costs as quickly as the reduction in sales resulting in a large **drop through to profit** impact, particularly in the WWW region."

disagree  Daryo: "les bénéfices / les revenus" may well be related concepts, but they are not synonyms, they are in fact mutually incompatible. Which one is supposed to be the right translation for "profits"?

Explanation:
At the beginning of this pandemic, companies were very concerned about the extent to which their profits would go down as sales went down.

The proz.com/Kudos below reduces profit to EBITDA and asks the question as to how that variable as the result of additional sales.

https://www.proz.com/kudoz/english-to-french/accounting/5069...

Elasticity is the measurement of the percentage change of one economic variable in response to a change in another. In the case, the first variable is profit, which responds to sales, the second variable.

// Sigh...

-> Incorrect! The concept of elasticity is relevant to business. Pls read the last attachment above.

disagree  Daryo: in a very convoluted way you could extrapolate the ST to presume that there's in this ST some kind of "elasticity" but I really can't see any need for "chercher midi à quatorze heures" and start seeing what's not in the ST

drop through to profit from reduced volumes fo sales

Explanation:
HERE the "through" in "drop through" to B from A expresses the idea of "effect on / consequences of" of A to B;

even stand-alone "répercussions sur les bénéfices" makes sense, as it's obvious from the context that the impact of falling sales was to drive profits downwards, not upwards.

also, as it's too late to post it in the References section:
